Rong Zhu

Rong Zhu is a seasoned optical network engineer with extensive experience in the design and development of undersea optical communication systems. Currently serving as a Sr. Optical Network Engineer at Viasat Inc. since June 2022, Rong previously held the role of Principal R&D/Product Development Engineer and Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at SubCom, overseeing engineering and construction for legacy and advanced optical transport solutions. With a career spanning over two decades, Rong has contributed significantly to TE Connectivity Subsea Communications, Xerox, Corning Rochester Photonics, and Pthalo Systems, with expertise in optical technology, micro-machining, and electro-optical systems. Rong's academic background includes a Master of Applied Science in Engineering Physics from The University of British Columbia, a Master of Science in Optics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Zhongshan (Sun Yat-Sen) University.
