Ana Rita Santos

Ana Rita Santos is a highly experienced professional in the field of neurobiology, currently serving as the Business Development Manager for Neurology at VIB since July 2016, where responsibilities have included advanced scientific roles such as Expert Scientist in Translational Research and Senior Scientist in the same area. Prior experience at VIB includes two post-doctoral fellowships focusing on autism and intellectual disabilities, contributing to significant research on cellular and molecular alterations. Ana's earlier career includes roles as a visiting scientist at prestigious institutions, extensive training in electrophysiology, and completion of a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology at Universidade de Coimbra, where research concentrated on BDNF's role in neuronal development. Initial training in animal handling and in vivo experiments occurred during an internship at Janssen, where the investigation of schizophrenia treatments commenced.
