Sara Isabel Fernandes is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at VIB since September 2022, focusing on the molecular mechanisms and metabolic contexts of metastasis formation. Previously, from July 2018 to July 2022, Sara served as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher at Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, investigating metabolic essentialities for tumor maintenance in hypoxic conditions. Sara's earlier experience includes a Researcher Assistant role at Pfizer and Anacor Pharmaceuticals Inc. in 2016, where the focus was on potential drug candidates for inflammatory diseases, as well as a Researcher Assistant position at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, contributing to projects on hematological neoplasias. Sara holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from Technion, a MSc in Cell and Molecular Biology from Universidade de Aveiro, and a BSc in Chemistry from Universidade do Porto.
