Prior to their roles at BAE Systems Applied Intelligence, Ashley worked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as the Head of Technical Operations and Capacity Building Programmes for 299 Signal Squadron. They were responsible for all government IT and communication systems for the British Embassy in Nigeria and successfully project managed IT initiatives.

Ashley's career began in the British Army, where they served as a Special Communications Engineer and a Communications Systems Operator and Manager. In these roles, Ashley managed IT and communication systems for both civilian and military purposes, operated in high-threat environments, and provided communication support in Afghanistan and Iraq.
