Fred Ashbury

Chief Scientific Officer at VieCure

Fred is a co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at VieCure. He is responsible for developing and maintaining VieCure’s oncology clinical content, genomic-science knowledge identification and codification, and the design and implementation of the treatment strategy rules that underpin our platform.

He received his bachelor’s degree (honors) from the University of Toronto, his Master’s degree from Queen’s University, and his doctorate from York University, with a focus on behavioral sciences.

He was the co-founder for Intelligent Improvement Consultants, a healthcare management consulting firm. He is a former senior executive with the National Cancer Institute of Canada, Cancer Care Ontario, and the Alberta Cancer Board, OpTx Corporation, and BridgeSite Clinical Research. Fred founded two other successful healthcare management consultancies with clients in the US, Canada, UK, Germany and Australia earning several million dollars in revenue.

With his background, Fred has mentored oncology practices and networks worldwide to define key performance indicators and quality metrics based on current evidence and practice to be used to establish practice accountability, reporting and quality improvement.

He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology; board member for the Multi-National Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC); Chair of the Guidelines Committee, MASCC; and member of the University of Swinburne Industry Research Advisory Committee.

His university appointments include the University of Toronto, Canada and Department of Oncology, University of Calgary. He has published 80+ peer-reviewed articles and major reports in oncology health services delivery, quality in cancer care, and supportive care and is the Editor-in-Chief for the top-ranked journal Supportive Care in Cancer.
