Matthew Bitner, MD, MEd, FACEP has a diverse and extensive work experience in the medical field. In addition, Dr. Bitner has had roles at Baptist Easley Hospital. Matthew served as the Chief of Academic Affairs from June 2018 to January 2019 and as the Associate Chief of Medical Staff Affairs from February 2017 to January 2019.

Prior to their time at Baptist Easley Hospital, Dr. Bitner worked at Greenville Health System as the Vice Chair of Medical Staff Affairs and Quality in the Department of Emergency Medicine from March 2015 to November 2017.

Other notable roles include serving as the Chief of the Department of Medicine and the Chief/Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Maria Parham Medical Center - Duke LifePoint Hospitals from January 2013 to July 2015.

Dr. Bitner has also held various positions at Duke University Health System. Matthew was a Clinical Associate in Surgery (Division of Emergency Medicine) from January 2013 to June 2015. Additionally, they served as the Director of the Clinical Evaluation Unit/Observation Medicine from February 2011 to January 2013, Director of Pre-Hospital Education and Research from June 2010 to January 2013, and Associate Director of Prehospital Medicine from June 2010 to January 2013.

Earlier in their career, Dr. Bitner worked at Duke University as the Director of Venue Medicine from June 2012 to January 2013. Matthew was also the Associate Director of the Prehospital and Global Disaster Medicine Fellowship from June 2010 to January 2013. Matthew held the position of Assistant Professor in Surgery (Division of Emergency Medicine) from June 2010 to January 2013.

Matthew Bitner, MD, MEd, FACEP completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry from Hampden-Sydney College from 1995 to 1998. Matthew then attended the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where they earned their Medical Doctor (MD) degree in Medicine from 2000 to 2004.

Dr. Bitner furthered their education and specialization in the field of Emergency Medicine by completing a Residency program at Emory University School of Medicine from 2004 to 2006. Following this, they served as Chief Resident in the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Emory University School of Medicine from 2006 to 2007.

In 2007, Dr. Bitner pursued a Master of Education (MEd) degree in Medical Education at the University of Cincinnati, which they completed in 2011. During this time, they also undertook a Fellowship in Prehospital and Disaster Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine from 2007 to 2009.

Dr. Bitner obtained their certification in Emergency Medicine from the American Board of Emergency Medicine in May 2008.
