Andrew Johnson has over 20 years of work experience, primarily in law enforcement. Andrew is currently serving as the Chief of Police for the Village of Hanover Park, a position they have held since May 2022. Prior to this, they were the Deputy Chief of Police, where they served as the second-in-command and performed various support services duties such as budgeting, emergency management coordination, and community outreach. Before that, they held positions as Police Lieutenant, Police Sergeant, Police Detective, and Police Officer within the same department. Outside of law enforcement, Andrew worked as a Law Enforcement Consultant for McGrath Consulting Group, Inc. starting in November 2016. Additionally, they had a role as a Loss Prevention Agent/Supervisor at JC Penney Inc. from 1997 to 1999.
Andrew Johnson's education history begins in 2002, when they enrolled in Columbia College. Andrew pursued a Bachelor's degree, with a focus on Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in English. Andrew attended Columbia College from 2002 to 2005.
In 2006, Johnson attended Northwestern University for a short period. During their time there, they completed the School of Police Staff and Command Certification program, which pertains to Public Safety.
Continuing their education, Johnson returned to Columbia College in 2008 and completed a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Criminal Justice Administration. Andrew graduated from Columbia College in 2010.
In addition to their academic achievements, Johnson obtained several certifications in the field of law enforcement. Andrew is an IL State Certified Firearms Instructor, an Illinois State Certified Homicide Investigator, and a PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor. These certifications were obtained through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
