Julie (Summers) Fitzgerald has a diverse background in community development and planning. Julie (Summers) began their career as a Planning/Zoning Intern at the City of Gahanna in 1996 and later worked as a Planner at the Medina County Planning Commission from 1998 to 1999. In 1999, they joined the Village of Schaumburg, where they held various roles including Development Review Planner from 1999 to 2004, Planning Services Manager from 2004 to 2010, and ultimately, Director of Community Development from 2010 to the present.

Julie (Summers) Fitzgerald received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they attended from 1991 to 1995. Following this, they pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning from The Ohio State University, graduating in the years 1996 to 1998. In June 2002, they obtained certification as an AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) Certified professional.
