Father of nine, 11-time marathoner and member of the KISS Army – Matt Lewis is not your typical CEO. Of course, Village Shalom isn’t your typical retirement community – making Matt just the right guy for the job. Matt began at Village Shalom as a contract financial consultant prior to accepting the role of chief financial officer in 2001. In 2005, he was promoted to his current role as CEO. Matt is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Rockhurst University.
Matt is the grandson of Italian immigrants – making him 50% Italian. He’s also a Cardinal-rooting, White Castle-munching, Imo’s Pizza-loving son of the Mississippi – making him 100% St. Louisian. Matt and his three brothers were born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Running was, and is, his passion. He was a state champion cross-country runner in high school and member of Rockhurst’s track and cross-country teams. Matt considers his completion of the Boston Marathon to be one of the best experiences of his life, even though he discovered that Heartbreak Hill was not one hill, but a painful series of five hills. Brutal.
Matt’s pride and joy is his family. He and his wife have six boys and three girls. They are also the proud grandparents of four. Matt’s favorite sport to watch is football, and he is a huge Chiefs fan. He loves a good Broadway show, too. Phantom of the Opera and Wicked are a few of his favorites. As mentioned, Matt’s favorite band is KISS – something every visitor of his grade school carnival face-painting booth realized when they all received full Gene Simmons face paint – regardless of their request. Needless to say, he wasn’t asked back the following year.
