Basudev Mahapatra is an accomplished writer and analyst with extensive experience in environmental journalism and documentation. Currently a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists since March 2018, Basudev has contributed to several renowned publications, including Village Square, The Quint, and LifeGate, focusing on rural issues in India. Basudev has also served as a contributing analyst for Wikistrat, engaging in simulations and analysis of global concerns. Notably, Basudev worked as a technical consultant for the Centre for Advocacy and Research, addressing disaster vulnerabilities in Bhubaneswar, and provided independent consulting for CARE India and the United Nations Population Fund, focusing on documentation and policy briefs related to agricultural sustainability and gender equality. Basudev holds a master's degree in History from Berhampur University and has completed a specialized training course in Science Journalism at ISCOS, Lucknow.

Village Square
Village Square will focus on impact of national and local policies on rural communities through detailed analyses by top development experts. It will identify and showcase stories of change led by communities, civil society and market players. It will do so by simple themes such as livelihoods, health, education, governance, gender issues and water. Village Square will maintain a sustained focus on the challenges and drivers of successful efforts in the stranded part of rural India.
