Gareth Morinan

Gareth Morinan has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Gareth is currently working as the Head of Data Science at Blowfish since February 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Lead Instructor at BrainStation starting in January 2023. Before that, they held the position of Head of Data Science at ViralMoment from February 2021 onwards. Gareth also has experience working at Gousto as a Senior Data Science Manager from June 2022 to February 2023. Additionally, they served as the Chief Scientific Officer at Machine Medicine from April 2019 to June 2022, where they founded and grew the data science function and published peer-reviewed ML papers. Gareth has also worked as a Freelance Data Scientist from April 2018 to March 2019. Gareth's earlier experience includes roles as a Senior Consultant and Consultant (Data Scientist) at International Planning & Research from November 2014 to February 2018, and as a Higher Scientific Officer and Scientific Officer (Operational Research Analyst) at the Government Operational Research Service from October 2008 to July 2011. Gareth also served as a Board Member at Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society from August 2013 to August 2017. Before entering the data science field, Gareth worked as an Actor & Comedian, with co-starring roles on internationally syndicated television shows for BBC & Channel 4 from August 2011 to August 2014. During their time at the Government Operational Research Service, they provided lead analytical support during schools budget negotiations for the Department for Education.

The courses they pursued at the university included Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics, and Economics.

In 2017, they enrolled in a data science boot camp at Cambridge Spark. This intensive program allowed him to delve deeper into applied data science, further honing their analytical abilities.
