Jose Avila

Jose Avila has extensive experience in marine engineering, currently serving as Deputy Chief Engineer at Virgin Voyages since October 2019. Prior to this role, Jose held various positions at Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. from September 2011 to October 2019, beginning as a 2nd Engineer and advancing to First Engineer, notably before the Explorer of the Seas Dry dock. Jose's earlier experience includes working as a 3rd and 4th Engineer with Disney Cruise Line from 2009 to 2011, where responsibilities included overseeing hotel operations and AWWS during the inaugural cruises to Alaska, and as 4th and 3rd Engineer with Hanseatic Shipping Company from 2000 to 2009, contributing to the engineering teams on different tanker vessels. Academic qualifications include degrees in Chief Engineer Unlimited CoC and First Engineer Unlimited CoC, as well as an MSc in Marine Engineering from Universidad Nacional Experimental Marítima del Caribe.
