Thomas Sanford

Thomas Sanford currently serves as Deputy Attorney General and previously held the position of Assistant Attorney General at the Virginia Office of the Attorney General since February 2022. Prior experience includes working as an Attorney at the Virginia State Corporation Commission and as an Associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. Thomas also gained experience as a Summer Associate Law Clerk at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and as a Research Assistant for Professor A.E. Dick Howard at the University of Virginia School of Law. Additional internships include the Office of the Chief Staff Attorney at the Supreme Court of Virginia and a role as Program Officer for Trustee Affairs with the American Council of Trustees and Alumni. Thomas Sanford holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of Virginia School of Law, a Master of Arts (MA) in History from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in History and Politics from Washington and Lee University. Thomas is a graduate of Stuyvesant High School.
