Martha Glass

As direct supervisor for Student Affairs leaders in communications, human resources, information technology, and assessment and professional development, Martha oversees the division’s administrative processes, including strategic planning and implementation and management of university, state, and federal compliance processes. She serves on the Vice President for Student Affair’s senior leadership team and represents the office of the Vice President on various university-wide committees. She is a member of the university Incident Management Team (COVID response). She serves as a diversity director for Student Affairs, is liaison with the Higher Education and Student Affairs program, and is an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, Higher Education, at Virginia Tech.

Prior to her current position, she was the Executive Director for Assessment, Professional Development, and Human Resources for Student Affairs. Previous positions also include Director of the Elsie S. Shenk Wellness and Women’s Program at Millersville University and Coordinator of the Office of Substance Abuse and Sexual Assault Education at Radford University.

Martha earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies and a M.S. in Sociology from Virginia Tech. She has a M.S. in Counselor Education, Student Affairs Counseling, and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Radford University.

Martha is professionally active in the College Student Educators International (ACPA) and is Chair of Directorate Board of the Commission on Assessment and Evaluation. She has also been instrumental in the ACPA Student Affairs Assessment Institute and the ACPA/NASPA Professional Competences Rubric Task Force. She is the 2020 recipient of the Wise Woman Award from the Coalition for Women’s Identities, presented by ACPA. Martha is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and has co-authored and presented on such topics as developing an assessment infrastructure for preparation for accreditation, building an assessment team to promote a culture of assessment, and igniting a paradigm shift to a learning-centered organization. She is passionate about supporting colleagues in creating high impact learning experiences in and out of the classroom, measuring those experiences, and using data to inform change.
