Thomas Davies

Distinguished Engineer at Visionular

Thomas Davies is a distinguished engineer at Visionular, focusing on super fast encoding, video processing, RTC, VoD, AV1, and HEVC. Prior to that, Thomas worked at Cisco as a principal engineer, specializing in video processing and codecs. Thomas also contributed to AOM AV1 video codec standards development. Before joining Cisco, Thomas was a technical leader at BBC, leading the video compression R&D team and participating in the development of HEVC. Thomas also worked on novel video compression technologies, including developing the Dirac video compression algorithm. Thomas has a background in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Oxford, as well as a PhD and MSc in Mathematics from the University of Warwick. In addition, Thomas has experience as a research and development engineer at Reference Information Systems, where Thomas provided technical consultancy in systems, computing, and networking.
