Erika Jones is currently the Tourism, Sports & Visitor Services Administrative Assistant at Destination DC. Prior to their current position, they interned with the Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum from May to August 2017 as a Communications Intern. There, they assisted with film shoots for local and national media, aided in a media event for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's Mars concept rover, pitched stories about interns to newspapers across the nation, wrote intern features for the employee e-newsletter, and strategized with marketing for publicizing events such as family days and lectures. Additionally, Erika managed the department's twitter account targeted to media/reporters, designed graphics for said twitter account, created specific media lists , updated the 'Weekly Digest' (a composite of media mentions of the museum) via Meltwater, and produced calendar events on websites for local, targeted audiences for the Museum's activities/events.
Before their time at the Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum, Erika was an APPLES Service-Learning Intern at Ronald McDonald House Chapel Hill from January to May 2017. And finally, they were also a UNC-CH Team Member for the 2018 PRSSA Bateman Competiton from January to March 2018.
Erika Jones' educational career began with their earning a B.A. in Journalism (Public Relations) & Erika'story (United States) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Erika then went on to earn a certification from Google Digital Garage in The Fundamentals of Digital Marketing Certification.
They are on a team with Erica Riddle - Tourism & Visitor Services Coordinator, Taylor Malcolm - International Tourism Sales Manager, and Lindsay Hill - Associate Director, Tourism Sales. Erika Jones reports to Letizia Sirtori, Director, Tourism Sales.
