Jan Mares has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Jan started their career as an Auxiliary at CSOB in 2011 and later worked as a Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in 2013. Jan then took on a role as a Data Analyst at Czech Aeroholding a.s. for a brief period in 2013.

In 2013, they also worked as a Trainee at OECD - OCDE before joining the Ministry of Finance of the Czech Republic, Economic Modelling Unit in 2014. At the Ministry of Finance, they worked as an Economist, specializing in estimating potential output and output gap of the Czech Republic. Jan was also involved in macroeconomic and fiscal analysis, applying quantitative methods and econometric models.

In 2017, Jan Mares became a Junior Researcher at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, where they worked until 2020. During this time, they gained research experience and contributed to the field.

In 2020, Jan Mares joined Vitadio as a Data & Analytics Lead, utilizing their expertise in data analysis and analytics. Later in the same year, they also worked as a Consultant at The World Bank until mid-2021.

Jan Mares began their education in 2008 at Charles University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Economics. Jan completed this program in 2012. In 2010, they attended Umeå University, focusing on Business/Commerce, General for one year. In 2012, they spent a semester at the University of Otago, studying Economics and Finance. Following this, they returned to Charles University to pursue a Master's degree in Economics from 2013 to 2015. Jan Mares then continued their education at the Institute of Economic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics from 2015 to 2020.
