Benjamin T. Backus

Benjamin T. Backus has worked in a variety of roles in the field of optometry since 1990. Benjamin T. began their career as a Teacher at Oakland Emiliano Zapata Street Academy in 1990. Benjamin T. then went on to pursue a PhD at the University of California, Berkeley School of Optometry in 1993. After graduating, they worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania from 2000 to 2007. Benjamin T. then moved to SUNY College of Optometry where they worked as an Associate Professor until 2015. Since 2015, they have been working as a Chief Science Officer and Science Advisor at Vivid Vision.

Benjamin T. Backus received their Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Swarthmore College in 1985. Benjamin T. then went on to receive their Master of Arts in Experimental Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987. Following this, they obtained their Secondary Education Teaching Credential in Mathematics from Holy Names University in 1990 and 1992. In 1993, they obtained their PhD in Vision Science from the University of California, Berkeley. Finally, they completed a Postdoctoral study in fMRI and binocular vision at Stanford University in 1998 and 2000.
