Stijn Messiaen has extensive experience in climate coordination and land management, currently serving as the Climate Coordinator at the Vlaamse Landmaatschappij since July 2001, where responsibilities include developing resilient open spaces in response to urbanization and climate change. Prior roles at the Flemish Land Agency included Head of Regional Department, Head of Division, and Project Manager, alongside earlier experience as a Research Associate at the Vlaamse Vereniging voor Ontwikkelingssamenwerking en Technische Bijstand. Stijn Messiaen holds a PhD in Applied Biological Science from KU Leuven and a Master’s degree in Bio-engineering from Ghent University, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Bio-engineering from KU Leuven.
