Dirk Buyens

Director Open Exec Education / Full Professor at Vlerick Business School

Dirk Buyens has a diverse and extensive work experience. Dirk started their career in 1987 at Vlerick Business School as a Research Associate and later became an ICM Fellow. In 1992, they also worked as an Associate Professor (part-time) at KU Leuven campus Brussels. From 1994 to 2011, they held the position of Associate Professor (part-time) at both Antwerp Management School and University of Antwerp. In 1997, they became a Full Professor (Hoogleraar) at Ghent University, where they worked until at least 2021. In 1999, they joined Vlerick Business School again as the Academic Dean and full Professor, a position they held until 2015. From 2003, they were also the CEO of Great Place to Work® Belgium.

Dirk Buyens earned their Ph.D. in industrial psychology from Ghent University from 1989 to 1993. Dirk also completed a doctoral fellowship in work and organizational psychology at the University of Minnesota - Carlson School of Management from 1990 to 1991. Prior to this, they obtained an MBA from KU Leuven from 1987 to 1989 and completed a postgraduate in management from KU Leuven in 1986. Dirk began their academic journey by earning their Master's degree in industrial psychology from Ghent University from 1981 to 1986. Dirk completed their primary education at OLVE Edegem between 1975 and 1981.
