Karen Koay has a diverse work experience spanning over 20 years. Karen is currently the Head of Digital Experience & E-commerce at VMLY&R COMMERCE, leading the strategy for digital transformation and integration efforts of individual brands. Prior to this, they were the General Manager, Digital at Geometry Global, where they oversaw daily operations and supervised the digital, social, and CRM divisions. Karen also held roles such as Business Head at G2 Direct Interactive, Country Head (Malaysia) at Vocanic, and Group Account Director at Proximity Malaysia. Karen has experience in strategic business planning, client relationship management, talent management, and new digital marketing solutions. Karen started their career as a Senior Analyst Programmer at DiGi Telecommunications.

Karen Koay completed their education in the field of Information Technology. Karen obtained a Bachelor of Information Management degree from Monash University, which they pursued from 1997 to 1999. Following that, they pursued a Master of Business Systems degree from the same university, completing it from 1999 to 2000. In addition to their formal education, Karen Koay also obtained certifications in the field of business and design. Karen received the "Forrester Building Winning Business Cases" certification from Forrester in July 2022 and obtained the "Human Centered Design Professional Certification" from VMLY&R in December 2021.
