Alexandra Jones

Senior Electrochemical Engineer at VoltStorage

Alexandra Jones has a diverse range of work experience in the field of electrochemistry and battery development. Alexandra is currently working as a Senior Electrochemical Engineer at VoltStorage since February 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Casual Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant at The University of Manchester from 2018 to 2023, where they also pursued a PhD in Nanoscience with a focus on developing novel organic anolyte materials for redox flow batteries. Alexandra completed a 3-month course on business and commercialization of research and achieved third place for their business idea and pitch.

In 2022, Alexandra had two research roles. Alexandra worked as a Research Intern at VFlowTech, where they aided in research meetings for the development of vanadium redox flow batteries and contacted manufacturers for new/improved flow battery components. Alexandra also served as a Guest Researcher at TNO for a period of four months.

In 2020, Alexandra was selected as a Research Fellow by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Alexandra designed and wrote a research proposal to obtain funding for their work on novel sulfonated-ionic liquids for organic redox flow batteries in collaboration with Professor Rika Hagiwara. Alexandra also acted as a Science Representative for the Graphene Enterprise and Innovation Centre (GEIC) at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and the Masdar Institute for Science and Technology. Alexandra'srole involved teaching attendees and investors about graphene and its applications.

In 2019, Alexandra completed an 8-week Code First Girls Course on front-end coding and web development, earning a Level 1 Front-end certificate from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Earlier in their career, they gained experience as an Undergraduate Researcher at Hammond Group, where they conducted research on heterogeneous catalysis for sustainable chemical production. Alexandra utilized various analytical techniques for their work. Additionally, they served as a Research Assistant at Università di Bologna in 2016.

Alexandra Jones obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nanoscience (Chemistry and Electrochemistry) from The University of Manchester from 2018 to 2022. Before that, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry (MChem) at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd from 2014 to 2018. Alexandra'ssecondary education was completed at Kesteven and Sleaford High School Selective Academy from 2012 to 2014, where they attained their A-Levels in Chemistry, Biology, Classical Civilisations, and General Studies, along with an AS-Level in Mathematics.
