G-J van Rooyen

G-J van Rooyen's work experience includes holding the position of the Executive Chairman at Octoco, a consultancy company specializing in electronics and software. In this role, van Rooyen is responsible for innovation management, specialist engineering, technology risk management, and investor relations.

Additionally, van Rooyen serves as the Chief Executive Officer at Fanfire.ai, which offers enterprise Web3 solutions using blockchain technologies.

As for academic appointments, van Rooyen holds the position of Associate Professor Extraordinary at Stellenbosch University since October 2021. Prior to this, van Rooyen was an Associate Professor from July 2020 to September 2021. Van Rooyen's roles at the university also include being a faculty board member and an advisory board member for the Division of Computer Science.

Before joining Stellenbosch University, van Rooyen co-founded and directed Custos Media Technologies, providing media providers with a solution to identify content uploaders illegally distributing their content. Van Rooyen has also served as a Non-Executive Director at Voxcroft, an advisor at The LaunchLab, and as a Director at the MIH Media Lab, where research on emerging information and communications technology was conducted.

G-J van Rooyen completed their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Electronic Engineering from Stellenbosch University between 1995 and 1998. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electronic Engineering at the same university from 2001 to 2004.
