Anastasios Gavras

Anastasios Gavras has a diverse and extensive work experience history. Anastasios currently serves as the Wire-Direct Energy Deposition Technology Program Manager at VRC Metal Systems, LLC, where they lead projects focused on advancing Wire-DED technology for additive manufacturing. Anastasios also guides and works with the project team on various Wire-DED projects. Prior to this role, Anastasios worked as an Advanced Manufacturing Process Development Engineer at VRC Metal Systems, LLC.

Before joining VRC Metal Systems, LLC, Anastasios worked at Bose Corporation as a Senior Materials Engineer. In this position, they conducted materials and failure analysis of components, subassemblies, and product systems to support product development functions across multiple divisions. Anastasios also performed analytical analysis to determine failure mechanisms and designed testing methods to identify and reproduce assembly and system failures.

Anastasios's work experience also includes a role as a Senior Metallurgist at Babcock Power, where they performed metallurgical evaluations and root cause failure analysis of power plant components. Anastasios conducted condition assessments of various plant components, estimated their remaining life, and conducted root cause failure analysis to determine the causes of failures and propose corrective actions.

Additionally, Anastasios worked at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where they held multiple roles. Anastasios served as an Adjunct Teaching Professor and a Post-Doctoral Researcher, conducting fundamental research on novel processed, cold-spray aluminum alloys and optimizing their design for fracture resistance. Anastasios also identified knowledge gaps and wrote proposals for future projects. Prior to this, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant, studying the fatigue crack growth behavior of structural materials and building an extensive experimental database. Anastasios also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for a crystallography and x-ray diffraction course.

Anastasios Gavras obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Mining & Metallurgy Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. Anastasios then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Materials Science & Engineering from the same institution, taking place from 2006 to 2007. Later, they attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where they completed their Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from 2008 to 2012.
