Brian Green

Co-Founder & CTO at Vulcan Biologics

Brian Green is the Co-Founder and CTO at Vulcan Biologics. Prior to this, they were the Sr. Director of R&D at Glycobia, Inc. from January 2018 to December 2019. Before that, they were the Sr. Director of Assay Development at Sample6 from January 2017 to April 2017.

Brian's extensive experience in the field began at Joule Unlimited Technologies, Inc. where they were the Director/Sr. Director of Cell Development from January 2008 to December 2016. In this role, they were a key contributor of Joule's R&D organization from the initiation of wet lab operations. Brian led efforts to develop robust genetic engineering tools for the optimization of gene expression and host physiology in recombinant photosynthetic bacteria for the production of advanced biofuels. Brian also managed a team of 10+ Scientists and Research Associates participating in a number of key projects / programs within the Biology Department.

During their time at Joule Unlimited Technologies, Inc., Brian oversaw the isolation, characterization and development of proprietary cyanobacterial production host strains. Brian also developed and implemented a series of selections / enrichments and high throughput screens for the delivery of lead candidate strains with enhanced fuel productivity. In addition, they developed a proprietary in situ bioburden mitigation technology that controls the growth of fuel-consuming heterotroph contaminants, allowing for continuous outdoor fuel production at large-scale. Brian Green completed their PhD in Microbiology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and their BS in Botany / Plant Pathology at the University of Maine.
