Jonathan Burks

Jonathan Burks has an extensive and diverse work experience. Jonathan is currently a Member of the Board of Directors at the United States Institute of Peace since October 2022. Jonathan is also a Commissioner at the PPBE Reform Commission since March 2022. Previously, they held the position of Vice President, Global Public Policy at Walmart from September 2020. Prior to that, they worked as a Partner at Brunswick Group from January to August 2020. Jonathan has also served as the Chief of Staff to Speaker of the House Paul D. Ryan and as the National Security Adviser from December 2015 to January 2019. Jonathan was a Policy Advisor for Budget and Appropriations for U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in 2015. Jonathan has also worked as a Policy Director at the House Budget Committee from August 2011 to January 2015 and as a Budget Analyst, Defense and International Affairs from July 2010 to August 2011. In 2012, they were the Deputy Policy Director for Romney for President. Jonathan began their career as a Masters Student at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies from August 2008 to May 2010.

Jonathan Burks attended Cumberland Valley High School from 1991 to 1995. Jonathan then went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Service at Georgetown University from 1995 to 1999. Later, from 2008 to 2010, Jonathan completed a Master of Arts degree in International Relations at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
