Bob Walsh, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board, has a lengthy history improving the quality of life for low-income families, senior citizens and those with special needs by focusing much of his experience and energy on the construction of affordable, multi-unit housing. Bob founded Walsh Construction Co. along with his brother, Tom, in 1961 as a way to finance their college educations. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University, Kellogg Business School. In late 1968, the company undertook its first general construction contract for a 10-unit HUD subsidized apartment project and the company’s passion for affordable housing began.
Bob quietly contributes time and resources to improve opportunities for children and families throughout the area and has been instrumental in the success of several long-term programs, helping non-profit clients raise funds and in-kind contributions in order to make their projects a reality. This commitment to the community permeates the company, as employees are encouraged and given the opportunity to volunteer their time and talents to many local non-profit organizations. A company-wide employee giving campaign results in hundreds of thousands of dollars donated annually to several area charities.
