Joel Waugh has a diverse work experience spanning various leadership roles in cybersecurity and information security. Joel served as the Vice President of Cybersecurity and Chief Information Security Officer at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) since May 2022. Prior to that, they worked at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as the Chief of Information Security Risk Management and Deputy Chief of Security. Joel also held positions at ManTech International Corporation and Knowledge Consulting Group, where they played key roles in information security and support for government clients. Joel Waugh has also volunteered as a soccer coach for the Arlington Soccer Association and had experience in the military, particularly in the US Army, where they served in various supervisory and technical roles.

Joel Waugh holds a Master of Science degree in Information Technology/Information Assurance from the University of Maryland Global Campus, obtained between 2010 and 2012. Joel also obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the same university, completed between 2000 and 2007.
