Kathryn Kiely

VP for External Affairs at Waterford Institute of Technology

Kathryn Kiely is Manager of Industry Services within the Office of the VP of Research at WIT. In this role she has responsibility for overseeing the management and direction of the Institute’s support infrastructure for sponsored research and the technology transfer function in WIT. Since her appointment to the position in 1997 she has played a significant role in supporting the research community in WIT accessing EU, national and industry funding for research, promoting the Institute’s research expertise externally and managing industry / academic collaboration, including contracts, IP management and technology transfer issues. She has played a key role in stimulating enterprise development initiatives such as the South East Enterprise Platform Programme and was responsible for securing funding from Enterprise Ireland to support the development of the Institute’s ArcLabs Innovation Centre.

Prior to joining WIT Kathryn’s career involved working in a variety of executive and management roles in both the financial services and international consultancy sectors; most recently in ESB International in which she was involved in the delivery of engineering consultancy and training programmes to companies in Central and Eastern Europe.

Kathryn holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from UCC and an MBS from the Smurfit School of Business in UCD. In addition she has participated in a number of the UK PRAXIS, AURIL and ASTP technology transfer training programmes. She is a director of the South East Business Innovation Centre and a director of a recently formed start- up company.
