Founder & COO Wayakit, Sustainable Hygiene at Wayakit

Sandra Medina, PhD has worked in a variety of roles since 2011. From 2011 to 2015, they were a Project Assistant at Universidad de los Andes, where they worked on projects such as the evaluation of soluble microbial products (SMP) production in an anaerobic immersed membrane bioreactor (MBR) for wastewater treatment and reports of water quality network of Bogotá. In 2013, they worked as an Environmental Support Engineer at Oxy, where they conducted auditing, inspections and environmental follow-up in Caño Limon oil field (60.000 BPD) operation. That same year, they also worked as an Environmental Engineer Level 2 at CDM Smith, where they were involved in the design of the new Canoas wastewater treatment plant (16 m3/s WWTP) for Bogota - Canoas. In 2014, they worked as a Technical Sales Engineer at Nijhuis Industries, providing technical support and follow up to clients in Latin America for wastewater and waste to value projects. Since 2015, they have been a PhD Candidate in Environmental Engineering at KAUST. In 2018, they founded and became the CMO of Wayakit, a company that develops effective biotech-based formulations on hygiene.

Sandra Medina, PhD obtained their Doctor of Philosophy from KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) in Environmental Science and Engineering in 2020. From 2011 to 2013, they obtained their Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes. In 2012, they obtained their Internal Auditor HSEQ certification from Universidad El Bosque. Finally, from 2007 to 2011, they obtained their Chemical and Environmental Engineering degree from Universidad de Los Andes.
