Joy Swanson Ernst is an accomplished academic with extensive experience in social work. Currently serving as an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Wayne State University since August 2016, Joy oversees academic programs in the school of social work. Previously, Joy held the position of Professor of Social Work at Hood College from July 2000 to July 2016, directing the undergraduate social work program and teaching various courses. Joy’s teaching experience also includes adjunct faculty roles at New York University and Fordham University, focusing on MSW students. In research, Joy contributed as Research Director for the Family Connections Project at the University of Maryland and worked as a Graduate Research Assistant on studies related to child maltreatment and welfare reform. Joy's educational background includes a PhD in Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore and an MSW from Rutgers University, complemented by a BA in History from the University of Chicago.
