Romana Ryals has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Romana began their career as a Program Support Intern at Spark Program in 2009. In 2010, they worked as a DC Program Intern at Northstar Baltimore - Tutoring and Mentoring at MPPI. In 2011, they served as a Summer School Associate at District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). Later in the same year, they joined iMentor as a Program Coordinator, and then advanced to the position of Senior Program Coordinator. From 2013 to 2015, they took on the role of College Success Program Manager at iMentor. Following this, they worked at YMCA of Greater New York as a Program Director at Washington Irving High Campus from 2015 to 2020. Currently, they hold the position of Head of Programming and Community Partnerships at Luminary, a role they began in February 2021.

Romana Ryals began their education in 2005 at the University of Oregon, where they did not pursue a specific degree or field of study. In 2006, they transferred to Central Washington University, also without obtaining a degree or declaring a field of study. In 2007, they attended Foothill College, but again did not receive a degree or focus on a particular field of study.

In 2008, Romana Ryals enrolled at The George Washington University and earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Sociology, which they completed in 2010.

Subsequently, in 2012, they attended the Options Institute at Goddard Riverside, where they earned a certificate in the Foundation & Framework of College Access and Success Counseling. Romana completed this program in 2013.

Overall, Romana Ryals obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from The George Washington University and a certificate in College Access and Success Counseling from the Options Institute at Goddard Riverside.
