Russell Ferris has extensive work experience in the horse racing industry. Russell started their career in 2003 as a General Manager at Scarvagh House Stud, one of Europe's leading National Hunt Stud Farms. Russell then became the Managing Director of Limerick Racecourse in 2009, where they successfully organized top-class racing events and diversified the venue's offerings. In 2014, they joined At The Races as a Director, where they played a key role in broadcasting horseracing events across the UK and Ireland. In 2016, they transitioned to Weatherbys Ltd, initially serving as the Operations Director and later as the Chief Executive of Weatherbys General Stud Book. Under their leadership, Weatherbys has continued to thrive as a family-owned business with a broad business portfolio, including regulatory functions, commercial services, software solutions, and a premier DNA and genomic testing laboratory.

Russell Ferris began their education at Portadown College, where they attended from 1994 to 1998. Russell then enrolled at Queen's University Belfast and completed a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from 1998 to 2001. Following this, they pursued further education at Queen's University Belfast and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Communication with a focus on Change Management, which they completed in the academic year 2001-2002.
