Eileen Hays-Schwantes has an extensive work experience in the field of software engineering and sustainability. Eileen began their career in 2009 as a Project Assistant at Enertek Sustainable Design and Technology, where they conducted research and prepared documentation for building projects to achieve LEED certification. In 2011, they worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, researching policy opportunities for two Indian cities. From 2018 to 2022, they worked as a Software Engineer at Lyft and WeaveGrid.

Eileen Hays-Schwantes has a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from the University of California, Berkeley, with a field of study in Renewable Energy and Climate Policy. Eileen also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in Urban and Regional Planning. In 2017, they completed a course at Hackbright Academy in Computer Software Engineering.
