Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball at Webster University Leiden

Five of Coach O'Connell's 9 seasons on staff as an assistant coach with the men's basketball team has seen the Gorloks win SLIAC titles, as well as three of the program's four NCAA Tournament berths.

O’Connell came to Webster after serving as the Head Coach at Hillsboro High School, where he inherited a 7-win team. His Hawks were 76-32 (29-7) in his four-year tenure, winning the Jefferson County Conference Championship in 2008 and 2009. Hillsboro finished atop the conference in Scoring Offense in 2007 and 2008, and in Scoring Defense in 2009 and 2010. He was voted Conference Coach of the Year in 2007 and 2009.

He earned a Master of Arts degree in Education from Lindenwood University, after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from Eastern Oregon University.
