Daniel Ryan

VP, Head of Consultant Relations & Senior Client Portfolio Manager at Weitz Investment Management

Daniel Ryan is the current Director of Institutional & Sub-Advisory Distribution at Weitz Investment Management. Daniel was previously employed at Calamos Investments from May 2008 to March 2014, where they held the position of VP Director Institutional Sales.

Hired as the first direct institutional sales professional at Calamos, Ryan was tasked with helping to develop the company brand and grow the institutional asset base. Daniel successfully grew the asset base from five percent to nineteen percent of total firm AUM. In 2010, they lead the brand/identity development initiative that resulted in Calamos adopting the "Active Global Growth" mantra across all distribution platforms.

In order to augment the Calamos Active Global Growth brand and allow the team to consultatively interact with plan sponsors, Ryan and their team began communicating their solution set through marketing "One Team, One Process, Differentiated Risk Profiles." This allowed them to move away from retail, product focused marketing initiatives and towards articulating the outputs of the research process. Ultimately, this allowed plan sponsors/consultants to determine what derivative of Calamos research process would most intelligently impact their current initiatives.

Daniel Ryan graduated from the State University of New York College at Buffalo with a degree in economics and a focus in finance.

They work with Thomas Carney - Director of Fixed Income Research, Portfolio Manager, James Boyne - President, and Bradley Hinton - Co-Chief Investment Officer. Daniel Ryan reports to Wallace Weitz, Founder, Co-Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Manager.
