David Brown graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis. He also earned a Master of Business Administration with high distinction from the University of Michigan. He is a certified public accountant.
Brown joined Wellmark in 2011. As the company's executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer, he is responsible for the finance functions, including accounting, tax, actuarial, underwriting, investments, procurement, audit services, analytics and property management.
Brown serves on the Boards of the Des Moines Redevelopment Company, the Downtown Community Alliance and the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
Prior to joining Wellmark, Brown spent 12 years with Capital One Financial, most recently as managing vice president where he led the finance function for Capital One's domestic credit card business. Brown also has experience in management consulting with Bain and Company, and he started his career in public accounting with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
