Melenie Parsons currently serves as the Head of Human Resources at WESSA (Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa) since April 2025. Prior to this role, Melenie held the position of Human Resources Manager at Browns the Diamond Store from April 2020 to April 2025 and worked as a Human Resources Business Partner at Nespresso (Exclusively distributed by Top Coffee) from 2017 to March 2020. Melenie's earlier experience includes serving as an HR Officer at Smollan from November 2014 to October 2016 and as an HR and Training Practitioner at OEC Training Institute from 2005 to 2014. Melenie started a career in human resources as a Human Resources & Training Specialist at Nashua Mobile from 1999 to 2004. Academically, Melenie earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal between 2005 and 2007, and completed high school at Stanmore Secondary School, where core subjects included English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, and Physics.

WESSA implements environmental, ecotourism, education and youth development programmes throughout South Africa, and activates a wide range of local initiatives for the environment through its membership network. The organisation is a trusted project partner with a proud history of over 90 years of enabling individuals and organisations to use natural resources sustainably. Priority areas of work include managing the international education and tourism eco-labels including Eco-Schools, Blue Flag and Green Key; critical work skills training; facilitating experiential learning at their four education centres; and protecting biodiversity and water resources through effective Invasive Alien Plant clearing projects. WESSA is also working to develop an empowered and enthused youth sector and, as a UNESCO partner, is supporting education for sustainable development across the southern African region.
