Abby Bryant joined Wessex Archaeology as Consultancy Director in 2017 after previously working for the company early on in her career as a founding member of the Consultancy Team. Abby left Wessex in 2011 to set up her own consultancy but delighted to have returned as a Director to head up the work of a large team of heritage consultants and built heritage specialists across four of their regional offices.
After gaining a first-class degree in Archaeology and a Masters in Landscape Archaeology from Bristol University, Abby was a consultant on a number of long-running and complex assessments including the authorship of a review of the treatment of archaeology within the Environmental Impact Assessment process on historic trunk road schemes commissioned by Highways England. She has also authored and managed over 300 archaeological desk-based assessments, including setting assessments, conservation management plans, and other specialist heritage reports. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (MCIfA).
She is motivated by the challenge of finding pragmatic and sustainable solutions for clients by using archaeology and heritage to add value to projects.
Outside of work, Abby is an avid knitter and reader of post-apocalyptic fiction.
