Bradley G. Somer, MD, is a nationally-recognized expert in cancer care. His passion is his patients and their families. As President of West Cancer Center, Dr. Somer will lead projects such as sub-specialization and a new hospital rounding initiatives, while also serving as a leader in major projects, growth and expansion. Dr. Somer joined the West team in 2002 after completing his fellowship training at the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center. Dr. Somer also completed his internship and residency at the Hospital University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Board Certified in Medical Oncology, he sees patients in our Memphis, TN, and Southaven, MS, offices. Dr. Somer is actively involved in clinical research, often participating as principal investigator in research trials at West Cancer Center. “Our clinical trial offerings exceed many top academic programs across the country where people travel long distances to seek medical care. It is a crown jewel for the Memphis cancer community for patients to have access to potential treatments long before they reach the general community.” Dr. Somer chairs the Committee on Cancer for Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare system. He has served on the board of Community Oncology Alliance. He serves on the board of the UT/West Institute for Cancer Research, and leads several strategic initiatives, major projects and committees as part of West Cancer Center. Dr. Somer is married with 5 children. He devotes the majority of his spare time to family and community leadership activities. Education and Training: Dr. Somer graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine with the top award at graduation in “outstanding Scholarship, devotion to patient care, and concern for colleagues”. He was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society. He did his internship and residency at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center. Awards: Leukemia-Lymphoma Society- Man of the Year Award, Mid-South, 2002-2003 Alpha Omega Alpha, 1996 Edward Weinstein Memorial Award for Outstanding Scholarship. Devotion To Patient Care, and Concern For Colleagues, 1996 Research: Dr. Somer’s current and recent research projects include: Investigating novel anti-androgen agents in pre-metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer, and combination treatments in metastatic prostate cancer Novel cancer vaccines for use in prostate cancer Immune checkpoint inhibitors for bladder cancer and renal cancer Various molecular targeted therapy for bladder, renal and prostate cancer Novel combination therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer Combination of standard chemotherapy with novel immunotherapy for pancreatic cancer Various molecular targeted agents and immune checkpoint inhibitors for colorectal, gastric, pancreas, hepatobiliary cancers Publications: Most recently, Dr. Somer has been published several times, including articles on treatment patterns and clinical effectiveness in metastatic castrate resistant prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma, novel therapies in pancreatic cancer, combination chemotherapy in colorectal cancer.
