Brian Carlsen has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Brian is currently the Founder and CTO of West Coast Informatics, where they develop solutions to healthcare problems using standard terminologies, healthcare models, and advanced algorithms. Brian is deeply involved in the software development and deployment life-cycle, currently working on a "Terminology-as-a-service" project.

In 2018, Brian co-founded Ciitizen, a platform focused on empowering cancer patients to have complete control of their health data. Brian serves as the Director of Clinical Informatics and is responsible for developing the next-generation personal health data management system.

Brian has also worked as a Creative Director for Niche Games, LLC, where they developed fun and interesting games for niche markets. Brian was involved in various areas such as creative, finance, and marketing. Brian successfully launched their first project, "Fun In The Oven".

Additionally, Brian has served as a Member of the Software Development Advisory Group at IHTSDO. Brian was responsible for documenting and providing governance around the Open Tooling Framework open source community. Brian also provided essential updates on software development practices and tools and services.

During their tenure at Apple in 2017, Brian worked as a Senior Software Developer, specializing in terminology for health.

Prior to these roles, Brian gained valuable experience working with companies such as Environmental Services, Lockheed Martin, Management Systems Designers, Inc., Apelon, Inc, and Lexical Technology. In these positions, they held various roles, including Owner/Managing Member, Software Dev Analyst Sr Staff, Systems Expert, and Director of Contract Programming. Brian worked on a range of projects, specializing in healthcare terminology systems, software development, and maintenance, and the development of software systems to support the National Library of Medicine's Unified Medical Language System.
