Mitchell Hooten has extensive experience in turf management, currently serving as the Head Groundskeeper for the West Michigan Whitecaps since March 2017. Prior roles include Head Groundskeeper at Beloit Professional Baseball, Inc from March 2016 to February 2017 and Assistant Groundskeeper for the Kannapolis Intimidators, a Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, from January 2013 to February 2016. Mitchell began career in the industry as a Groundskeeper Intern with the Detroit Tigers and Toledo Mud Hens. Educationally, Mitchell Hooten holds a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy with an emphasis in Golf and Sports Turf Management from Mississippi State University and an Associate of Science from Monroe County Community College.

The West Michigan Whitecaps are a professional minor league baseball team. A member of the 15-team Midwest League and Class A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, the Whitecaps play 66 home and 66 road games each season. "Home"​ is LMCU Ballpark, a privately-owned stadium built in conjunction with the Whitecaps'​ arrival in 1994, located in Comstock Park, MI (seven miles north of Grand Rapids, MI).
