Mark VandenBerg is an accomplished maritime professional with extensive experience in leadership roles across various companies. Currently serving as Captain at Westar Marine Services since August 2020, Mark has also worked as a Self-Employed Consultant from December 2018 to October 2023. Prior to these roles, Mark spent over a decade at Foss Maritime Company as Captain from 2012 to October 2023 and previously held a Captains position at Westar Marine Services from 2003 to 2012. Mark's maritime career began at MBARI, where skills were developed as Captain from 1990 to 2001. Mark VandenBerg holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University Maritime Academy.

Westar Marine Services has been catering to the San Francisco Maritime Community since it was founded in 1976 by Buzz Heffron. In the summer of 1997 Westar relocated from Pier 46B to Pier 50C to make room for the new San Francisco Baseball Park. Westar operates 17 Tugs, 8 Water Taxis and 19 Barges. The experienced, professional personnel who operate and maintain this equipment are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
