Rev. John Simon

Vice President Of Spiritual Health Services at Westchester Medical Center

Rev. John Simon has an extensive work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Rev. John currently serves as the Vice President of Spiritual Health Services at Westchester Medical Center, a position they have held since July 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Assistant Vice President of Spiritual Health Services at the same organization from July 2021 to July 2023.

In addition to their work at Westchester Medical Center, Rev. Simon has also held leadership positions in various other organizations. Rev. John was the President of the Association of Professional Chaplains from October 2022 to October 2023, and prior to that, they served as the President-Elect from November 2021 to November 2022.

Rev. Simon has a strong background in pastoral roles as well. Rev. John served as the Senior Pastor of The Historic Second Baptist of Poughkeepsie, NY from June 2009 and continues to hold this position. Rev. John has also served as the Director of Integrated Patient Experience & Network Chaplaincy at Westchester Medical Center from March 2014 to September 2021, and as the Director of Spiritual Care Services at Vassar Brothers Medical Center from August 2004 to March 2014.

Before their roles in healthcare and pastoral services, Rev. Simon worked as a Chaplain at Presbyterian/St. Lukes Medical Center in Denver, CO from September 1997 to August 2002. Prior to that, they served as the Senior Pastor of Lowry Community Christian Church from April 1997 to December 2000. Rev. John started their career as an Advanced Staff Auditor at HARTFORD INSURANCE from June 1989 to August 1992.

Rev. John Simon attended the Iliff School of Theology from 1995 to 2002, earning a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) degree with distinction. Rev. John'sstudies at Iliff focused on post-colonial discourse, ethics, and leadership. Prior to that, they attended Yale University from 1993 to 1995, where they obtained a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree in the field of divinity. In their undergraduate years, they studied at Prairie View A&M University from 1985 to 1989, completing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with a focus on accounting. Additionally, they have shown an interest in ecological sustainability, multinational corporations, sociology, and anthropology, although the specific details of their studies in these fields are not provided.
