Andy Coburn

Andy Coburn has extensive experience in academia and project management, currently serving as Research & Graduate Faculty at Western Carolina University since October 2006. Coburn has developed and teaches multiple courses, including public affairs and environmental science, and leads the Professional Outdoor Industry Certificate Program. In an Outdoor Industry Faculty Liaison role, responsibilities include networking with industry leaders and securing funding for initiatives. Previously, Coburn coordinated activities as Associate Director of the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines, providing technical support on coastal management issues. Additionally, Coburn held the position of Academic Director at the School for International Training for a brief period in 2023 and served as Director of Coastal Policy at Duke University, where expertise in coastal resource management and fundraising was demonstrated. Academic credentials include a Master’s in Environmental Management from Duke University and a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University.
