Tom Clinton

Director

Tom Clinton, PhD, is currently the Director at Western Digital, where they manage a wafer-fabrication team focused on developing Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR). They have held various significant roles in R&D, including as a Senior Manager at Western Digital and a Senior Scientist at NthDegree Technologies, where they led teams in semiconductor electronics development. Prior to their current position, they contributed to innovative projects at Seagate Technology and HGST, receiving the Outstanding Technical Contribution Award for advancements in data storage technologies. Additionally, Tom served as an Adjunct Professor of Physics at Georgetown University, where they taught graduate courses and advised students in the field of data-storage technology. Tom holds degrees in Math, Physics, and Electrical Engineering, along with a PhD in Condensed Matter Physics.
