Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson, CPP, currently serves on the Advisory Council for Law Enforcement & Justice Administration at Western Illinois University. With extensive experience in asset protection and security, Johnson has been a member of the GLG Council since July 2015, providing expertise to various clients in the US retail sector. Previously, Johnson held the position of Director of Asset Protection & Safety at Guitar Center from August 2018 to August 2023, overseeing a leading music retailer with significant sales and a substantial workforce. Additional roles include serving as Sr Content Lead for the NRF Protect Conference, Advisory Board Member for ALTO USA, Adjunct Instructor at Miller-Motte Technical College, and Vice President of Loss Prevention at The Vitamin Shoppe, where a data-driven approach was implemented to enhance asset protection strategies. Johnson has also held senior positions at The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company and Barnes and Noble Booksellers, significantly transforming loss prevention functions in both organizations. Johnson earned a BS in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration from Western Illinois University.
