The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy
Matthew Marusiak is an experienced professional in land conservation and community development, currently serving as the Land Protection Manager at the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy since September 2011. In this role, Matthew manages land acquisition projects in the Pennsylvania Wilds Region, fosters partnerships with local land trusts and governmental agencies, and develops and implements parcel-level protection plans. Prior to this position, Matthew worked as a Community Development Coordinator for the North Central PA Regional Planning and Development Commission and the Elk County Planning Department, where responsibilities included managing regional development projects and grant administration. Matthew's earlier career involved engineering roles at Air Products and Union Carbide, focusing on process design and improvement in the petrochemical industry. Matthew holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a BS in Chemistry from Gannon University.

The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy enhances the region’s quality of life by protecting and restoring exceptional places. A private nonprofit conservation organization founded in 1932, WPC has helped to establish 11 state parks, conserved more than 260,000 acres of natural lands and protected or restored more than 3,000 miles of rivers and streams. We provide our region with clean water, healthy forests and wildlife and thousands of acres of natural areas free for all to explore. The Conservancy owns and operates Fallingwater, a symbol of people living in harmony with nature. In addition, WPC enriches our region’s cities and towns by planting and maintaining 130 community gardens and greenspaces with the help of thousands of volunteers each year.
