Substitute Musician at Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra

Alvin Simpson is an accomplished music educator and conductor with extensive experience in various educational and performance settings. Currently serving as the Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at West Liberty University since August 2022, Alvin directs multiple ensembles, including the Wind Symphony, University Band, and Marching Hilltoppers, while teaching courses in music education and applied trumpet. Since 2009, Alvin has been involved as a trumpet teacher at Seton Hill University and a substitute musician with the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra. Previous roles include being a guest conductor, the Middle School Band Director at Punxsutawney Area School District, and an adjunct professor at Duquesne University. Alvin's academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education from Eastman School of Music and advanced degrees in music performance and music teacher education from Duquesne University and Seton Hill University, respectively.

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra, began in 1969 when a group of community leaders and musicians assembled an orchestra for several concerts at a local high school. Now, four decades later, the WSO brings world-class soloists to the concert stage.
