Nathaniel Huckabay

Nathaniel is a Mining Engineer with 16 years of surface coal mining experience. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Missouri – Rolla, Nathaniel began his career with Luminant Mining in Texas before joining Westmoreland in 2018 at the Poplar RiverMine in Saskatchewan.

Before occupying the General Manager role at Poplar River, Nathaniel held many positions of escalating responsibility in Operations and Engineering at several different mines across the state of Texas. While Nathaniel’s career began in Engineering, he has steadily progressed into a full-time role in production management. Nathaniel has a track record of leadership positions at mines of various production and staffing levels with varying delivery infrastructure, a broad range of stripping conditions and with draglines of various sizes in both single and multi-seam operations. Immediately prior to joining Westmoreland as a General Manager, Nathaniel held an equivalent position at Luminant in overall mining management with related exposure to power plant operations and management.

Nathaniel played an active role in the Texas Mining and Reclamation Association (TMRA), where he chaired the Lignite Committee and sat on the Board of Directors. He currently represents Westmoreland on the Board of Directors for the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA) and Chairs the Industrial Minerals Section.
